
The Nigeria Customs Service, Kebbi Area Command, has recorded significant operational gains within one month, raking in over ₦25.6 million in revenue, a 36 % increase from the previous month, while also seizing contraband goods valued at more than ₦109 million, including 35,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) meant for smuggling to neighbouring countries.
According to a press release issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim ,disclosed this during his maiden press briefing at the command in Birnin Kebbi on 8th October, 2025.
Comptroller Ibrahim, commended the resilience and commitment of officers under Operation Whirlwind Zone B, whose targeted patrols led to the interception of 14,750 litres of PMS valued at ₦8.85 million, and an additional 20,975 litres valued at ₦12.58 million, bringing the total seizure to 35,725 litres. He disclosed that in line with extant laws, the seized fuel would be auctioned to the public, with proceeds remitted into the Federation Account.
He said the command also made substantial seizures of various prohibited items, including 100 bales of second hand clothing, 444 laptop-sized wraps of cannabis sativa, 143 mini sacks of donkey meat, 140 cartons of foreign spaghetti, 100 bags of foreign parboiled rice, and 20 jerrycans of vegetable oil. The total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of all items stood at ₦109,595,761, underscoring the scale of the Command’s enforcement efforts.
On revenue performance, Ibrahim revealed that the Command generated ₦25,621,609.26 in September, representing a 36.13 per cent increase compared to the previous month of August. He attributed the improvement to intensified field operations, enhanced compliance among traders, and the renewed sense of purpose among officers of the Command.
Reaffirming the importance of inter-agency collaboration,he formally handed over the 444 wraps of cannabis sativa and 143 sacks of donkey meat to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS), respectively. Representatives of both agencies, who attended the press briefing, commended the Customs Command for its professionalism and pledged continued cooperation to curb the movement of illicit items across the nation’s borders.
The event was graced by notable personalities including Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) of Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) Adamu Isah Gano, ably represented by Superintendent of Quarantine Muhammad Bashir Abdulrazaq; Commander of Narcotics, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kebbi State Command, Mr. Rabiu Abdullahi Sokoto; and the Commander, Operation Whirlwind Zone B, Assistant Comptroller of Customs N.O. Edet, alongside other senior officers and stakeholders.
