The Chairman of Guard Time Information and Human Rights Activists Nationwide, Bibi Oduku, has officially appointed Barrister Alice Wowuota Iwara as the new Head of Women and Children Affairs in Abuja.
The appointment, which was announced earlier this week, is seen as a strategic step toward enhancing the organisation’s engagement in issues affecting women and children, particularly in areas related to abuse, empowerment, and legal protection.
Mr. Oduku, while announcing the appointment, emphasized Barrister Iwara’s longstanding dedication to social justice, noting her tireless efforts in advocating for the welfare of vulnerable populations.
He expressed confidence in her capacity to lead initiatives that will significantly advance human rights for women and children across the FCT.
Barrister Iwara brings a wealth of experience in legal advocacy and community service, with a strong track record of promoting gender equity and child protection.
Her appointment is expected to usher in a new era of proactive engagement in combating societal challenges such as gender-based violence, child abuse, and economic marginalization.
In her remarks following the announcement, Barrister Iwara expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity, reaffirming her commitment to championing the cause of women and children.
“I am deeply honoured and humbled by this appointment. I am passionate about protecting the rights and advancing the well-being of women and children, and I intend to use this office as a platform to drive meaningful transformation.
“My focus will be on promoting policies, initiatives, and interventions that safeguard the interests of women and children while ensuring their voices are heard and their rights fully protected.
“As part of my activities in this role, I intend to launch strong advocacy and awareness campaigns against rape, domestic violence, and child abuse.
“I will work to establish support programs for survivors, create empowerment initiatives for women to achieve economic independence, and collaborate with relevant agencies, law enforcement, and NGOs to ensure justice and protection for victims.
Furthermore, “I will focus on community engagement, policy advocacy, and building safe spaces that uphold the dignity and rights of women and children across the FCT.”
