In a concerted effort to tackle revenue leakages, smuggling, and other customs-related challenges, the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone B, Kaduna, of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced plans to deepen collaboration with the Kano/Jigawa Area Command.
According to a press statement issued by the spokesperson for FOU Zone B, Saidu Nuruddeen, the initiative was unveiled during an operational visit by the newly redeployed head of FOU Zone B, Comptroller Aliyu Alkali, to the Kano/Jigawa Command on Thursday, 8 May 2025.
The visit aimed to strengthen intra-agency cooperation and enhance synergy between operational units within the Nigeria Customs Service.
Comptroller Alkali was received by the Area Controller of the Kano/Jigawa Command, Comptroller Abubakar Dalhatu, and his management team. Both parties held discussions centred on developing proactive strategies to enhance customs operations, improve intelligence sharing, and strengthen joint operational effectiveness.
In his remarks, Comptroller Dalhatu reiterated his command’s commitment to maintaining national security through accurate revenue collection and the intensification of anti-smuggling operations.
Recently, in an exclusive interview with JournalNG, Alhaji Abdulrashid Nasidi , a leading operator at the Kano Free Trade Zone commended Comptroller Dalhatu for devising trade facilitation strategies that is raising the level of orderliness and promoting genuine businesses in the area.
Nasidi affirmed that he brought an end to the irregular practices previously taking place and has since restructured the operations within the Free Trade Zone, particularly regarding customs procedures.
Despite facing significant resistance—including multiple attempts to undermine his efforts through planned industrial actions, several times — Comptroller Dalhatu remained steadfast in enforcing due process. Regardless of differing opinions, his contributions are undeniable and deserve recognition.
