Flour Mills Paid N47b for Customs Duty, Commends NCS Trade Facilitation Efforts

Managing Director of Flour Mills of Nigeria PLC, Mr Omoboyede Olusanya has disclosed that the company has so far paid ₦47b as customs duty to the federal government as customs duty .

Olusanya who said this on Wednesday in Abuja during the ongoing Comptroller General of Customs Conference, commended the Nigeria Customs Service for the ₦5tr collection which implies attainment of its 2024 revenue target

He commended the various trade facilitation programmes initiated by the service which has enabled companies with good records to enjoy quicker clearance devoid of encumbrances .

According to him, the programmes is helping his company to receive their import consignments with the option of paying later.


Olusanya who participated in a panel discussion during the conference said his company has earned the service trust by being allowed to take delivery of its cargoes before duties were made.

Also speaking during the panel discussions, Customs Area Controller for Tin Can Island Port Command, Dera Nnadi said a total of 105 declarations have been processed and given out.

Nnadi added that the 2024 figure of declarations which is still growing has surpassed what was collected by November this year

He added that despite the reduced, volume of trade the number of transactions increased from 75 in November 2023 to 105 same period of 2024.

He attributed the success in revenue which saw the command hitting the ₦1tr mark and facilitating trade to innovations like Authorised Economic Operator, advance ruling with upgraded capacities for officers and partners and the time release study programmes

The Tin Can Port Controller said interventions like continental declaration was introduced in 2023 to remove internal barriers in cargo clearing processes.
