A female soldier has been confirmed dead, and others injured after a private vehicle recklessly crashed into a group of troops during the Bi-Annual Route March near Myhoung Barracks in Yaba, Lagos State.
The incident occurred on Friday morning during a training exercise aimed at enhancing the operational readiness of Nigerian Army formations across Lagos State.
In a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 81 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, the deceased soldier has been taken to the mortuary, while the injured personnel are receiving medical care at the 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Yaba.
Lieutenant Colonel Ayeni further stated that the 81 Division Military Police, in collaboration with other relevant security agencies, is conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
The General Officer Commanding the 81 Division, Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, expressed his condolences, emphasising that the tragic loss would not hinder the Division’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property within its area of operations, in line with the Nigerian Army’s constitutional mandate.
