The agreement, which follows consultations between both parties, pegged the new port charge at ₦15 per kilogram, representing a compromise between FAAN’s earlier proposal of ₦20/kg and the existing ₦7/kg currently in use.

The resolution was achieved during a stakeholders’ meeting held on Monday, February 9, 2026, at the MMIA Terminal 2 Conference Room. The meeting was chaired by FAAN’s Director of Cargo Development and Services, Mr. Lekan Thomas.

According to FAAN, the revised tariff reflects a balance between the need to sustain airport and cargo infrastructure development and the concerns raised by cargo agents over cost implications for operators.

Both FAAN and the Customs Licensed Cargo Agents described the outcome as a product of constructive engagement, dialogue and shared responsibility aimed at improving the operating environment within the airport cargo ecosystem.

FAAN stated that the agreement is expected to enhance the ease of doing business at MMIA while supporting ongoing efforts to modernise cargo terminal facilities in line with global best practices.
