
The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate this year’s Eid-el-Fitr, marking the end of the Ramadan fast.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
The minister congratulated Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the fasting period and urged them to sustain the virtues of sacrifice, discipline, and compassion imbibed during Ramadan.
He also called on Nigerians to use the occasion to offer prayers for peace, unity, and stability in the country.
Tunji-Ojo further encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and remember the less privileged through acts of kindness and generosity.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to national cohesion, he stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.
Eid-el-Fitr signifies the end of Ramadan and is celebrated by Muslims nationwide with prayers, charity, and family gatherings.
