While expressing his appreciation, Mr. Ola Olukoyede thanked the delegation, pledged to fast‑track a deeper, rule‑based relationship, and urged the university leadership to “stabilize the institution and follow the rules so that no one will be called to answer for past actions.” He also called on management staff to support the VC, noting that success requires teamwork.

“I want to encourage you to see that you stabilize the institution. We keep telling people to do the right thing, to follow the rules, that is what we always tell executives and heads of institutions. Follow the rules so that long after you have left office, nobody will call you to come and make a statement. It is always good to work together as a team, we want to see that institution stabilized,” he said.

Professor Fawehinmi, who disclosed that the purpose of the visit was to kindle a sustainable relationship with the EFCC, commended Olukoyede for his relentless efforts at fighting corruption and financial crimes, noting that the EFCC Chairman mounted the saddle of leadership of the Commission at a time Nigeria was facing huge cybercrime challenges.

“We want to commend you for the great job you are doing in fighting financial crimes. In particular, cybercrime is a very huge challenge in this country which you have been able to fight headlong. I want to thank you most sincerely and your management team for the wonderful job you are doing for the current administration.

He expressed readiness of the University to establish a sustainable relationship with the EFCC, assuring that the relationship would be based on sticking to the rules of high financial regulatory standard.

Speaking on areas of collaboration, Fawehinmi stated that there was need for both institutions to look at human capacity building and sensitization of staff and students of the university on the dangers of financial crimes, noting that the Yakubu Gowon University is the only Federal university in the Federal Capital Territory, well located and accessible.

He recalled the stalled move of the university to develop an Institute of Forensics Studies in conjunction with an Indian-based institution where the University was to work together with the EFCC, a move, he said, was overtaken by the establishment of an EFCC Academy and Cybersecurity Research Centre.
