The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has generated a revenue of N15,911,581,116.72 between October and November 2024, which surpasses the N11,912,219,301.19 that was generated at the same period in 2023 by 33.57%.
The Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Ben Oramalugo who disclosed this to journalists during a press briefing at the Command’s Headquarter in Ibadan added that from 30th October to 19th December, the Command made seizures of prohibited items with a Duty Paid Value of N370,772,600:00.
He further revealed that for the period covering January to November 2024, the Command generated a total revenue of 72,568,409,802.02 which is more than the N64,118,678,267.69 that was generated in 2023 by 13.17%.
Comptroller Oramalugo emphasised that the Command will intensify its anti-smuggling operations during the Yuletide period . According to him, the seizures were carried out in strict adherence to the provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023 and the ECOWAS Common External Tariff (CET).
He informed that approval has been granted to the Command by the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi to handover the seized Pharmaceuticals to the National Agency For Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NDLEA) for further investigation.
“For the period covering 30th October to 23rd December 2024, the Command has remained steadfast in enforcing the Federal Government’s fiscal policies, generating revenue, and combating smuggling activities that threaten our economy and security.
The seized prohibited items include: 110 (50Kg) Bags of foreign parboiled rice, 4000 packs of foreign macaroni, 377 (25 litre kegs) of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS),
111 bales of second hand clothings, 348 pieces of used tyres, 50 cartons of banned chloroquine injections, 1bDAF truck and 1 Canter.
