Assistant Comptroller of Customs Akpevwe Ogboru, a trailblazing officer of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has returned to a rousing reception after completing an extraordinary 72-day solo motorbike journey from Nigeria to Belgium and back.
Ogboru, who began the adventure on August 1, 2025, rode across 22 countries in Africa and Europe before arriving home on Saturday, October 11, 2025. She was warmly received at the Seme–Krake Joint Border Post by senior officers, including the host Comptroller Wale Adenuga, alongside other Area Controllers within Zone A.
Beaming with joy, Ogboru reflected on the highs and lows of her remarkable journey.
“It’s been 72 days in 22 countries, and I’m happy to be finally back. I just like to stay on the positive side of life. Every time I move, I move with positivity,” she said. “When challenges came, I prayed about them. Sometimes the bike would have little issues, but it always got me through safely.”
The Assistant Comptroller said her expedition was driven by a passion to inspire women and promote inclusivity, proving that determination and faith can overcome any obstacle.
“This ride was for women’s empowerment and the girl-child,” she explained. “It’s to encourage women everywhere—be strong, don’t be discouraged. Whatever you set your mind to do, go for it. Fear only holds you back.”
Ogboru affectionately named her motorcycle “Rocky,” symbolizing endurance and resilience. She expressed hope that her cross-continental adventure would foster stronger ties between Africa and Europe.
“My prayer is that this ride brings positivity and meaningful impact. Africa and Europe have much to learn from each other, and I hope this inspires collaboration and progress,” she added.
Welcoming her, Comptroller Wale Adenuga praised Ogboru’s courage and vision, describing her feat as a testament to the Customs Service’s evolving leadership.
“We have a Comptroller-General who believes in inclusivity and empowerment,” Adenuga said. “Despite discouragement from others, she pressed on—and the CGC supported her. This shows leadership that values innovation and boldness. With this achievement, she has put Nigeria on the world map.”
AC Akpevwe Ogboru now holds the distinction of being the first female officer in the Nigeria Customs Service to embark on and complete such a demanding transcontinental journey — a feat that has earned her widespread admiration across the Service and beyond.
