Customs Ends 2025 PR Workshop in Kano, Honours Outstanding Officers

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has concluded its 2025 Public Relations Officers Workshop in Kano with a strong call on officers to uphold professionalism, resilience, and innovation in promoting the Service’s image and strengthening trust with stakeholders.

IMG 20250930 WA0098The five-day workshop, which ended on Thursday, 26 September 2025, convened Public Relations Officers, communication experts, academics, and media practitioners. Discussions focused on enhancing communication strategies, boosting institutional transparency, and aligning PR functions with the Service’s modernisation agenda.

The programme also provided hands-on insights into evolving communication dynamics while fostering knowledge exchange between officers and experts.

IMG 20250930 WA0100National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, expressed gratitude to participants and facilitators, attributing the workshop’s success to teamwork.

“I believe whatever success we have recorded is a product of teamwork. One cannot do it alone. This is our success,” he said.

The event closed with a dinner night in honour of officers, stakeholders, and resource persons. Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, who was represented by Comptroller Abubakar Dalhatu of the Kano/Jigawa Command, praised the commitment of participants.

He shared encouraging feedback received during the sessions, noting: “A professor revealed to me that, as a result of this workshop, the perception of the Nigeria Customs Service has changed from negative to positive. I was happy to hear this.”

The CGC further urged PROs to remain consistent and proactive in their communication efforts.

“The message for all PROs of the Nigeria Customs Service is that we still have a lot of work to do. We have many upright officers with integrity. It is our responsibility and duty to continue to push this narrative,” he charged.

The workshop concluded with a cultural and educational tour of Kano State, where participants explored Minjibir Park, the historic Gidan Makama Museum, and Gidan Dan Hausa. Traditional dances and local entertainment enriched the experience, offering officers a deeper connection to Kano’s heritage and hospitality.

The NCS reaffirmed its commitment to not only building the professional capacity of its officers but also fostering cultural appreciation as part of its broader strategy for institutional growth and stakeholder engagement.
