The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, has been conferred with the Outstanding Revenue Collection Award at the 2025 Nigeria Excellence Awards in Public Service (NEAPS).
The ceremony took place on Sunday, 7 December 2025, at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, said Adeniyi was selected from a pool of 44 distinguished recipients after a rigorous evaluation of public service performance across key national institutions.
Akume praised the CGC for his discipline, transparency and professionalism in driving revenue administration, describing his leadership as “a clear reflection of the kind of public service Nigeria needs at this critical moment.”
He noted that the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), under Adeniyi’s stewardship, has demonstrated “commendable consistency in surpassing revenue targets, tightening border management processes, and restoring public confidence in institutional service delivery.” According to him, Adeniyi’s nomination was both deserving and inspiring.
The SGF emphasised that NEAPS was designed to entrench a culture of recognition within public institutions, reminding awardees that public offices are held in trust for the Nigerian people.
Speaking to journalists after receiving the honour, Adeniyi expressed profound appreciation to President Tinubu, the SGF, and the award organisers. He described the recognition as “a personal inspiration and, more importantly, a tribute to the dedication of the officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service.”
Dedicating the award to the entire Customs workforce, the CGC said it would further boost morale as the Service intensifies efforts to enhance revenue collection, strengthen border security, and advance trade facilitation nationwide.
“This recognition challenges us to work even harder. It reinforces our commitment to making this country proud through credible revenue administration and service anchored on integrity and excellence,” he said.
Adeniyi was among the standout honourees at the second edition of NEAPS, which attracted prominent dignitaries, including the Governors of Adamawa, Bauchi, Kano and Zamfara States; the Director-General of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA); and several senior public officials.
The awards were organised by The Best Strategic (TBS) Media in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) to celebrate exceptional public service delivery across the nation.
