The handover ceremony, held at the ECOWAS building along the Seme Border, attracted a large turnout of stakeholders, including traders, clearing agents, and logistics operators. The gathering briefly slowed operations as attendees converged to witness the transition.

JournakNG reports that in Kaila’s inaugural address, he praised Adenuga for elevating the Command’s operational standards and outlined his commitment to advancing trade facilitation, strengthening compliance, and enhancing national security.

“My priority is to facilitate legitimate trade, improve compliance, and strengthen national security,” Kaila stated, assuring stakeholders of a more efficient and inclusive system under his leadership.

Adenuga, now redeployed to the Service Headquarters, described his transfer as a routine administrative move and urged stakeholders to extend full cooperation to his successor.

“It is the prerogative of the Service to post and redeploy officers,” he noted, emphasizing the need for sustained collaboration to maintain operational continuity.

Stakeholders commended Adenuga’s tenure, highlighting notable progress in trade facilitation, revenue generation, and anti-smuggling operations within a short period. A logistics operator, identified as Ojo, remarked that the outgoing Comptroller significantly transformed operations in just six months, making the system more inclusive.

Building on this foundation, Kaila is expected to consolidate existing gains while deepening reforms and improving overall efficiency. During Adenuga’s tenure, key initiatives were introduced to ease traffic congestion, strengthen anti-smuggling efforts, and enhance stakeholder engagement—areas observers believe the new leadership will further expand.

Despite the optimism surrounding the transition, some stakeholders pointed to underlying challenges, including resistance to reforms and internal pressures, though these claims remain unverified.

At the event, a Deputy Comptroller emphasized the importance of professionalism, urging officers to avoid internal rivalry and instead foster constructive engagement to support the Command’s progress.

Analysts say Kaila’s success will hinge on his ability to sustain momentum, enforce compliance, and navigate institutional complexities while driving operational improvements.

Adenuga’s departure was marked by goodwill messages, with stakeholders expressing confidence that the new leadership will not only sustain but also enhance the progress already recorded at the Seme Border Command.
