The Customs Area Controller, Oyo/Osun Area Command, Comptroller Gambo Iyere Aliyu, has commended British American Tobacco Nigeria (BATN) for its long-standing partnership with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) particularly in the areas of trade facilitation and compliance with extant customs laws and regulations.
During a familiarization visit to the company’s prestigious facility by Comptroller Aliyu with his delegation on 15th October 2025, he acknowledged BATN as one of the Service’s key stakeholders, recognised for its consistent adherence to trade standards and remarkable contribution to the tobacco manufacturing sector in Nigeria and beyond.
The Customs Area Controller further highlighted the socio-economic impact of BATN’s operations, emphasising its significant contributions to national revenue through customs duties and taxes, as well as its role in creating employment opportunities for Nigerian youths.
He noted that the company’s industrial activities have continued to promote economic growth and enhance industrial development within Oyo State and across the nation.
Speaking further, the Customs Area Controller recognised BATN’s commitment to best practices, maintenance of high production standards, and strict regulatory compliance. He added that through continuous cooperation between BATN and the Nigeria Customs Service, both institutions can jointly achieve the shared goals of economic growth, industrial advancement, and national prosperity.
The Director of Operations, BATN, Mr. Hasnain Ishtiaq, in his response expressed appreciation for the visit of the Customs Area Controller and his delegation. He acknowledged the vital role played by the Nigeria Customs Service in facilitating legitimate trade and supporting local industries, assuring the Customs Area Controller on the BATN’s continued commitment to regulatory compliance and collaboration with the Service.
