The Customs Area Controller of the Oyo/Osun Area Command, Comptroller Joseph Olugbuyi Adelaja has paid a courtesy visit to the Department of State Security Service (DSS) in Ibadan on Thursday 6th March, 2025.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdulmalik Abiodun Akintola who disclosed this in a press release, Comptroller Adelaja was warmly received by the State Director of the DSS, Mr. Adelakun, along with other principal officers of the establishment.
In his remarks, Comptroller Adelaja expressed his profound gratitude to the State Director for the opportunity to visit the sister security agency.
He emphasised the shared responsibility of both organizations in ensuring national security, economic stability, and the protection of Nigeria’s borders.
While highlighting the pivotal role of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), he noted that the agency is tasked with facilitating legitimate trade, enforcing customs regulations, and combating smuggling and other trans-border crimes.
Similarly, he acknowledged the DSS’s crucial role in intelligence gathering, maintaining internal security, and safeguarding national interests.
He further pointed out the increasing complexity of security challenges in the country, as smugglers and criminal elements continue to adopt more sophisticated tactics to evade detection, thereby undermining the efforts of security agencies. To address this, he reiterated the Oyo/Osun Area Command’s commitment to strengthening the longstanding collaboration with the DSS through intelligence sharing, capacity building, and coordinated operations to tackle cross-border crimes effectively.
Comptroller Adelaja appreciated the State Director and his management team for their hospitality and reaffirmed the NCS’s dedication to sustaining a strong working relationship with the DSS.
In response, the State Director, Mr. Adelakun, welcomed the Customs Area Controller and his entourage on behalf of the Director General of the DSS, Mr. Oluwatoyin Adeola Ajayi. He reaffirmed the long-standing cooperation between both agencies and emphasised that this relationship would continue to be nurtured and strengthened.
He expressed his gratitude to the Oyo/Osun Area Command for its unwavering support, which has contributed significantly to the operational efficiency of the DSS. He further assured the Customs Area Controller of the agency’s commitment to continuous collaboration in combating trans-border crimes and commended the NCS for its relentless efforts in safeguarding the nation’s economy.
The visit concluded with mutual assurances of continued cooperation to enhance national security and economic stability.
