In its efforts to achieve a sustainable environment and contribute significantly to the reduction of climate change impacts on communities in Nigeria and Africa, the Community Development and Advocacy Foundation (CODAF) has restated its commitment to combat methane emissions in Epe area of Lagos State.
In that regard, CODAF held a meeting with the General Manager of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, to bolster collaborative efforts aimed at reducing methane emissions in Lagos.
The meeting, which focused on fostering sustainable environmental practices, underscored the shared commitment to addressing climate change challenges through innovative waste management solutions.
CODAF’s team, comprising Communication Officer, Jeru Ubrei-Joe and Project Assistant Raphael Oniovo, President of Pan Africa Vision for the Environment, Anthony Akpan alongside Dr. Babatunde Ajayi and LASEPA’s Head of Partnership, Grants and Innovation Units, Mrs. Shonibare Olabisi, attended the meeting.
Oniovo opened the discussion by providing an update on CODAF’s Methane Reduction Facility in Epe, detailing the operational components and the progress made in engaging the local government to maximize community impact.
He emphasized the need for LASEPA’s collaboration, particularly in providing critical information and support to ensure the project’s success in Lagos State, both now and in the future.
On his part, Akpan highlighted the importance of NGO’s aligning initiatives with existing state programmes that as a regulatory agency, that we don’t have to be reinventing the will like the position of the state in all this and where we are and how can this project further enhanced the achievement in a more informed populace in terms of waste management particularly waste segregation and related activities.
Also in his intervention, Ajayi, who expressed LASEPA’s keen interest in supporting NGOs focused on methane reduction, stressed the importance of maintaining high operational standards and being mindful of community needs to ensure sustainable impact.
Ajayi also proposed a future engagement with all environmental and civil society groups working on methane reduction so that the Data and every story can be uniform.
The meeting concluded with CODAF’s presentation of a comprehensive report on the Epe project to Dr. Ajayi, while reinforcing their commitment to transparency and collaboration.
CODAF equally pledged its commitment and dedication to working closely with LASEPA and other stakeholders to drive innovative solutions for methane reduction through initiative that will contribute significantly to a cleaner and more sustainable Lagos State, and by extension, the entire country.
