CILT Nigeria, Abuja MoU Sign Agreements with MAN Oron for Student Membership, Training

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport(CILT) Nigeria and the Abuja Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control for West and Central Africa have signed two separate Memoranda of Understanding with the Maritime Academy of Nigeria

Barr. Mfon Usoro, President CILT Nigeria signed for the Institute while Captain Sunday Umoren, Secretary General, Abuja MoU signed for his organisation at two separate sessions where the Rector of MAN, Oron, Dr Kevin Okonna signed for the academy in the presence of Engr. Kehinde Akinola, Chairman Governing Council of the academy

While the CILT agreement with Nigeria’s premier maritime training Institution is aimed at promoting student membership , Abuja MoU agreement with the academy is focused on creation of courses for ship inspection officers

Acting Rector of MAN,Dr. Kevin Okonna who signed on behalf of the academy said students of the maritime transport department are now mandated to join the CILT as part of efforts to expand their access to professional training, mentorship, networking and job opportunities after school.

Okonna said other cadets studying nautical science and marine engineering would be required to join professional similar bodies to advance the interest and prospect of their careers while undergoing their primary courses of study at the academy.

Speaking on the development, Barr Usoro commended the academy for what she described as a great partnership that would help younger generation of transport professionals to improve and get closer to the industry where they hope to build their careers

She added that the love aligns with CILT Next Generation philosophy which is a youth and early-career arm of CILT Nigeria, stating that the MoU will provide networking, skill-building, mentorship, and leadership opportunities to nurture the “next generation” of industry leaders in Nigeria.

JournalNG findings over the years reveal that CILT Nigeria next generation have been noted for hosting skills development activities, building youths capacity for critical thinking, regular meetings using virtual and physical modes including talent hunt activities that relate to their field.

The CILT Nigeria next generation has also organised awards to honour youths who have distinguished themselves in various spheres of transport and logistics scholarships like encouraging essays and debates on Nigeria’s transport challenges.
