The Apapa Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced a remarkable revenue collection of N2. 01 trillion as of November 19, 2024 surpassing its target with over a month to spare before the year ends
This was disclosed in a press release issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Usman Abubakar
Comptroller Babatunde Olomu the Controller of the command, during a parade expressed the command’s aim to reach its N2. 2 trillion target by the end of November 2024
Comptroller Olomu attributed the command’s success to the inspiration drawn from the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, who announced a total collection of N5.07 trillion by the service at the recent CGC Conference 2024 in Abuja while stating that the Command contributed 40% of this total target, underscoring its critical role in the service’s overall performance nationwide
While addressing the parade, the controller urged officers to align with the outstanding examples laid out by the CCG in terms of revenue collection, trade facilitation, uncompromising enforcement and sustained stakeholders engagement in the service and national interest
Comptroller Olomu highlighted important outcomes from the conference, including enhanced cargo examination, sustained diligent import and export cargo examination with 100% physical examination where necessary, platform access granting enforcement unit officers access to the Nigeria Integrated Customs Information System platform (NICIS), reduced intervention alerts to avoid indiscriminate intervention to prevent conflicting work by the service
Other key reform initiatives announced by the controller include ban of commercial activities within customs formations and premises, compulsory medical checks for all officers, instituting rewards for outstanding officers and stakeholders, development of Zonal games being put together by the service Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), fully automating transire by Q1 2025 and expanding the Authorised Economic Operator and Advance Ruling schemes.
In other to boost the morale of officers serving in the command while stating the command’s plan for an award night for deserving officers and stakeholders who have contributed to the command’s success in 2024, Compt Olomu honored the Compliance Unit for the recovery of over N2 billion in three months and efforts of the Revenue Recovery Unit of the command was also recognised for the prevention of the loss of N3 billion in three months.
Assistant Comptroller M. Samad was awarded for due diligence and detection of under-valuation while Inspector of Customs Adamu Bashir was awarded as the best-dressed and punctual officer respectively
