Anti-Smuggling: Customs CG Approves Four Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats for Western Marine Command
Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi has approved the purchase of four rigid hull nflatable boats for the Western Marine Command to boost its patrol capacity and ability to safely go to the sea during enforcement operations
Comptroller Paul Bamisaiye, Area Controller of the command disclosed this to JournalNG during an interview while expressing optimism for more anti smuggling exploits using modern equipment provided by the CGC.
While thanking the CGC for approving the command’s request for the boats, Comptroller Bamisaiye said the fight against smuggling would be improved upon. He also expressed delight at the CGC interest in the success of Western Marine Command.
He said the command capacity to go to the sea has been built with the morale boosting patrol platform and well trained personnel deployed to server at the commsbd
Findings by JournalNG indicate that the rigid-hull inflatable boat (RHIB), is a lightweight but high-performance and high capacity boat constructed with a rigid hull bottom joined to side-forming air tubes that are inflated with air to a high pressure so as to give the sides resilient rigidity along the boat’s topsides.
The design is stable, light, fast and seaworthy. The inflated collar acts as a life jacket, ensuring that the vessel retains its buoyancy, even if the boat is taking on water.
The RIB is an evolutionary development of the inflatable boat with a rubberized fabric bottom that is stiffened with flat boards within the collar to form the deck or floor of the boat.
