
The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) has congratulated the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on his election as Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation Council (WCO).
In a congratulatory statement issued by AMJON President, Mr. Kelvin Kagbare, the association described Adeniyi’s election as deserved and historic,noting that it reflects his impactful leadership and dedication to modernising Nigeria’s Customs administration.
Adeniyi, who was appointed Comptroller General of Customs just two years ago, was lauded for transforming the NCS through trade facilitation initiatives, improved revenue generation, enhanced staff welfare, and fortified border security.
“His deserving election is a testament to two years of exceptional, purposeful, impactful, and dedicated leadership,” AMJON stated.The Association highlighted that Adeniyi has spent a significant portion of his career as the NCS’s image-maker and has remained committed to transparency and stakeholder engagement.
The association emphasised that his contributions have not only elevated the profile of the Nigeria Customs Service but also positioned Nigeria as a key player in the global customs community.
As Chairperson of the WCO, a 73-year-old apex customs policy-making body, Adeniyi is expected to bring his expertise to bear on international trade facilitation, regional cooperation, and capacity building among member nations.
AMJON expressed confidence that his tenure would promote Nigeria’s interests on the global stage and further deepen cooperation among customs administrations worldwide.
The association also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his trust in Adeniyi and extended appreciation to the WCO Secretary-General and leadership for endorsing his election.
