The Executive Secretary/ Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Dr. Akutah Pius, has emphasised the need for enhanced staff sensitisation on the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) scheme to ensure employees fully understand and benefit from its provisions.
Akutah made this known during a courtesy visit by officials of the NSITF to the NSC in Lagos. Represented by the Director of Human Resources Management, Alhaji Mustapha Zubairu, Akutah reiterated the Council’s commitment to staff welfare, particularly in the areas of health and insurance coverage.
He noted that the Council already has several staff focused insurance policies in place, which have positively impacted employee wellbeing. However, he urged the NSITF to further strengthen its legal and operational frameworks to guarantee maximum benefits for participating organisations like the NSC.
In his remarks, the Head of the NSITF delegation, Mr. Adegbite Oludotun, explained that the scheme provides compensation for insured government employees in the event of injury, disability, or death while in active service.
He commended the Nigerian Shippers’ Council for its registration and proactive interest in the welfare of its workforce, assuring that the Fund remains committed to prompt and adequate compensation for legitimate employee claims.
