The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Maritime Police Command, AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to strengthening inter-agency collaboration to enhance security across Nigeria’s maritime domain.
AIG Okunade gave the assurance while receiving the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral A. A. Mustapha, on a courtesy visit to the Maritime Police Command Headquarters at the Force Headquarters Annex, Obalende, Lagos.
The visit, according to the Maritime Police Command, highlighted the longstanding cordial relationship and operational synergy between the Nigerian Navy and the Maritime Police, aimed at bolstering security within Nigeria’s territorial waters and the wider maritime environment.
Speaking during the visit, Rear Admiral Mustapha reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to sustaining effective maritime security operations within the Western Naval Command’s area of responsibility and the nation’s high seas.
He assured the Maritime Police Command of the Navy’s readiness to deepen collaboration in tackling criminal activities along Nigeria’s waterways through intelligence sharing, joint operations and resource collaboration.
The FOC also noted that the combined efforts of maritime security agencies had contributed significantly to Nigeria’s removal from the global piracy list, stressing that sustained cooperation among security stakeholders remains essential to preserving the achievement.
In her remarks, AIG Okunade described the visit as a reflection of the strong partnership and mutual respect that have continued to exist between both Commands, noting that such cooperation is critical to safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime environment.
She also conveyed the appreciation of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to the Nigerian Navy for facilitating the participation of Marine Police personnel in a recent maritime training programme held in Ojo, Lagos.
According to her, the training enhanced the operational capacity of participating officers and further strengthened inter-agency cooperation.
The AIG reaffirmed the Maritime Police Command’s commitment to sustaining collaboration with the Nigerian Navy and other maritime security agencies in ensuring a safer and crime-free maritime domain.
The visit concluded with a tour of the Lagos State Marine Office at Awolowo Way, Lagos, the exchange of souvenirs and a group photograph session.
