Ag. Comptroller Afeni Visits Onipokia as Ipokia Traditional Leaders Pledge Support

Traditional leaders in Ipokia Kingdom have pledged their support to the Nigeria Customs Service following a courtesy visit by the Acting Customs Area Controller of Ogun I Command, Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, to the palace of the Onipokia of Ipokia.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chado Zakari who disclosed this in a press release said Comptroller Afeni visited Dr. Yisa Sola Adeniyi Olaniyan, the Onipokia of Ipokia Kingdom, and other members of the traditional council on February 3, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between the Nigeria Customs Service and host communities.

During the visit, the Acting Controller expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded him by the monarchs and commended their role in maintaining peace and stability within the kingdom. He described Ipokia as home and stressed the importance of working closely with traditional institutions in line with the Comptroller-General of Customs’ policy on synergy and community engagement.

Afeni noted that traditional rulers remain critical partners in the fight against smuggling and the enhancement of national security. He reiterated the core mandates of the Nigeria Customs Service, which include trade facilitation, revenue generation and anti-smuggling operations, and urged the traditional council to continue sensitising residents on the dangers of illicit trade and its adverse effects on national security and economic growth.

The Acting Controller also highlighted the Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives introduced by the Comptroller-General of Customs, explaining that the programmes are designed to discourage smuggling and promote sustainable development within host communities.

In his response, the Onipokia of Ipokia Kingdom, Oba Yisa Sola Adeniyi Olaniyan, commended the Comptroller-General of Customs for his transformative leadership and commitment to global best practices. He welcomed Comptroller Afeni as a “son of the soil” and pledged the full support and cooperation of the Ipokia Kingdom to the Nigeria Customs Service.

The monarch encouraged the Acting Controller to discharge his duties without fear or favour, reaffirming that Ipokia remains a peaceful and law-abiding community committed to supporting the Federal Government’s economic objectives.
