The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) is celebrating a historic victory after its President General, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, was ratified to three prestigious positions at the 46th International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) Congress in Marrakesh, Morocco.
According to a press release issued by the Union, the election which was held in March, 2024 at the ITF Africa Regional Conference in Abidjan, CΓ΄te d’Ivoire saw Comrade Adeyanju elected as Vice President of ITF Global, Executive Board Member, and Chairman of ITF Africa Region.
Adeyanju’s election to these three coverted positions underscores his leadership and dedication to advancing workers’ rights globally as his achievement marks a significant milestone for Nigeria and Africa, thereby solidifying Adeyanju’s reputation as a champion of workers’ causes on the international stage.
The union also believes that Adeyanju’s role as Executive Board Member and Chairman of ITF Africa Region will enable him to address unique challenges faced by African transport workers and promote the continent’s development.
