Former Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Dakuku Peterside, is set to deliver the 2026 Annual Lecture of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council.
Peterside, a leadership and management expert, will speak on the theme, “Politics, Ports and the Public Interest: The Media’s Catalytic Role in Driving Economic Growth.”
The lecture, which forms part of the NUJ Lagos State Council 2026 Press Week, will examine the relationship between ports, politics and the media, particularly the role of journalism in advancing economic development.
A key focus of the lecture will be whether the media can contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s ambition of building a trillion-dollar economy, with attention expected to be given to the ports as gateways to trade and economic growth.
The former NIMASA helmsman is expected to draw from his experience in maritime administration, governance, public policy, leadership and organisational transformation to examine how the media can shape conversations around national economic development.
The annual lecture is scheduled for Wednesday, September 30, 2026, by 10:00 a.m. at the Radio Lagos/Eko FM Multipurpose Hall, LTV Complex, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.
The 2026 NUJ Lagos Press Week will run from Monday, September 28 to Sunday, October 4, 2026, with a series of activities for journalists and stakeholders.
Other activities include the Chapel Rendezvous on Thursday, October 1; Juma’at Service at the Lagos State Secretariat Mosque on Friday, October 2; the Gala and Awards Night later that day at the BOS Hall, LTV Complex; and the Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, October 4, at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, Ikeja.
The NUJ Lagos State Council, in a statement signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Press Week Committee, Adewale Akodu and Moses Omorogieva respectively, called on journalists across the state to participate actively in the week-long programme.
According to the council, the Press Week will provide an opportunity for media practitioners to network, exchange ideas, strengthen professional relationships and reflect on the contribution of journalism to society.
The council said the 2026 Press Week will also bring journalists and stakeholders together to celebrate shared professional values, promote unity and reaffirm their commitment to responsible and professional journalism.
