
Barr Sam Nwakohu, a former Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) has died at age 70.
Sources close to his family told JournalNG that the lawyer died on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at a Lagos hospital after battling with an ailment.
Nwakohu who was CRFFN’s CEO between early 2019 and February 2023 re-organised the council and set it on the path professionalism , accountability and self sustainability.
Armed with his impeccable law background,as CRFFN CEO he was severally recognised for relentlessly pursuing economic empowerment and growth through sustainable freight forwarding in the country’s logistics ecosystem
He initiated freight forwarding educational programmes and achieved the affiliation of CRFFN with universities and other institutes of higher learning
The council’s Abuja office and a training arm – the Nigeria Institute of Freight Forwarding (NIFF) with hostel accommodation for freight forwarding scholars sited in the Federal Capital Territory (FTC) were initiated and completed on his watch
The CRFFN, on his watch, achieved construction and full operation of the council’s outstations and offices including the collection of Practitioners Operating Fee (PoF) for improved internally generated revenue (IGR) of the council.
An electronic obituary flyer released by his family has indicated specific days for condolence visits at his residence ,20 Ladipo Omotesho Cole Street,Lekki Phase 1,Opposite Lagoon Secondary School.
Announced dates by his family for condolences include Saturday April 11,Sunday April 12, Saturday April 18 and Sunday April 19 ,2026
Some employees of the school and retirees who spoke to JournalNG on condition of anonymity described the deceased as a thoroughbred leader who left indelible marks on the council .
