Tin Can Island Port Customs Intercepts Cannabis , Hashish Oil Worth N5.3b in 2 Containers

The Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted illicit drugs concealed in motor vehicles found in two x 40ft containers. The total street value of the illicit drugs recovered from both seizures is N5, 304,000,000

According to the Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Frank Onyeka who disclosed this to journalists on 24th October, 2025 at the Command, the first 1x40ft container with number HLXU8500072 was intercepted on 4th September 2025, through meticulous intelligence gathering and coordinated efforts of the officers and men of the Command. The container with a Bill of Lading Number HLCUTOR2506000834 was discovered to originate from Montreal, Canada.

According to him, upon 100% physical examination which was jointly conducted by officers of the Command and other relevant government agencies, the container which was found to contain four vehicles, had concealed quantities of illicit drugs which include: 156 packets of Colorado Indica (a strain of Cannabis) weighing 78 kilograms, and 1.2 kilograms of Hashish Oil.

The second container (FANU 312876/9) which was intercepted through the intelligence provided by the Customs Area Controller on the 24 October 2025 was carrying Four Vehicles with a total of Two Thousand and Eighty One packages of Cannabis Indica, weighing 1,093kg, and Eight (8) packages of Crystal meth weighing 8kg, concealed in the vehicles.

In line with inter-agency collaboration and standard operating procedures, Comptroller Onyeka officially handed over the seized narcotic substances to the NDLEA for further investigation, prosecution, and necessary legal action.

He sounded a clear warning to all individuals or groups involved in smuggling of illicit drugs stating that such nefarious activities not only sabotage the national economy but also pose severe risks to national security, public health, and biodiversity.

He extended his appreciation to the Comptroller General of Customs , Bashir Adewale Adeniyi and his management team for the continuous support given to the Command.
