Residents of Apapa GRA in Lagos woke up to see an unidentified young man, suspected to be a cable thief, dead beside a transformer along Liverpool Road on Monday morning
His lifeless body was seen with a saw which was suspected to being used to cut the electric cables when he was suddenly electrocuted as power was restored
Some onlookers who spoke at the scene, said he may have embarked on the cable cutting activity when there was power outage but ran out of luck as electricity was restored which led to an explosion that may have killed him on the spot.
Some said upon hearing the bang sound from the transformer, a second person suspected to be the deceased accomplice took to his heels.
Apapa has in recent times been suffering effects of scavengers also called ‘iron condemn’ who steal metals attached to critical infrastructures like manholes cover, cables and other metals.
As at past 4pm on Monday evening, the corpse of the suspected thief was still lying by the transformer
