Comptroller Shuaibu Charges FOU A Promoted Officers to Lead With Integrity, Humility

Comptroller Mohammed Shuaibu,Controller of Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit Zone A, has urged newly promoted officers of the unit to lead with integrity and humility

Comptroller Shuaibu, while addressing officers, guests, and stakeholders at the decoration ceremony of newly promoted officers and men of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A, Ikeja-Lagos, welcomed everyone warmly and congratulated the officers on their well deserved promotions.

He described the event as a significant moment in the history of the unit, stating that the promotions were not just about new ranks but a recognition of dedication and loyalty.

“The promotions being celebrated here today are not just titles conferred; they are a reflection of your commitment to excellence, your patriotism, and your steadfast service to the Nigeria Customs Service and to our great nation,” he said.

Comptroller Shuaibu commended the officers for their diligence, integrity, courage, and professionalism. “Your elevation is not by chance; it is a reward for hard work,” he stated. He reminded the newly promoted personnel that “with every promotion comes greater responsibility,” and urged them to uphold the high standards expected of them.

“This is not just a step up in rank it is a call to higher standards of leadership and accountability,” he added.

He further charged the officers to lead with integrity and humility. “Wear your new rank with humility, lead by example, and serve as mentors and role models to your colleagues,” he urged. He emphasized that “true leadership is not about titles or positions it is about service, empathy, and dedication to a cause greater than oneself.”

To those who were not promoted during the exercise, Comptroller Shuaibu offered words of encouragement. “Promotion is not a race; it is a journey,” he said. “Continue to serve with commitment and integrity. Be patient and persistent. Your time will come,” he assured, while also adding, “Promotion ultimately comes from God, and your efforts do not go unnoticed.”

He recalled that during the 63rd Regular Meeting of the Nigeria Customs Service Board, chaired by the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, a total of 3,312 senior officers were promoted. Similarly, during the 6th Management Meeting of the Nigeria Customs Service held on Friday, 29th August 2025, another 202 junior officers were elevated.

Within the Federal Operations Unit Zone A, Comptroller Shuaibu announced that a total of 186 officers benefitted from the promotion exercise. He provided the breakdown as follows: Assistant Comptroller of Customs to Deputy Comptroller of Customs – 7 officers, Chief Superintendent of Customs to Assistant Comptroller of Customs – 6 officers, Superintendent of Customs to Chief Superintendent of Customs – 22 officers, Deputy Superintendent of Customs to Superintendent of Customs – 27 officers, Assistant Superintendent of Customs I to Deputy Superintendent of Customs – 23 officers,  Assistant Superintendent of Customs II to Assistant Superintendent of Customs I – 42 officers, Inspector of Customs to Assistant Superintendent of Customs II – 48 officers and Assistant Inspector of Customs to Inspector of Customs – 11 officers.

In his concluding remarks, the Comptroller reminded the audience that “promotion is not the end of the road it is a checkpoint on the long path of service.” He stressed that there were “greater heights to attain, new challenges to confront, and more contributions to be made toward the development of our Service and the progress of our country.”

He ended by saying, “Once again, I congratulate all the newly promoted officers. May you continue to bring honour to yourselves, to this unit, and to the Nigeria Customs Service at large.”

The event concluded with a note of appreciation and prayers for continued success, as Comptroller Shuaibu thanked everyone present and wished them well.
