Half Year: Murtala Muhammed Airport Customs Collects ₦97.1b , Seizes ₦800m Pangolin Scales, Others

The Murtala Muhammed Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has generated a revenue of N97,157,711,817.56 compared to the N80,351,299,68 generated in the corresponding period in 2024.
The Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Michael Toyin Awe who disclosed this to journalists during a press briefing at the command said the 2025 revenue reflects a significant increase of N16,806,412,749.56 , representing 20.92% growth.
While giving details about the anti-smuggling activities of the command, he said the seizures made in the second quarter of 2025 worth N792,785 ,266. 37 Duty Paid Value (DPV) . According to him, the seized items include: 18 pieces of Tippmann Semi – Automatic Calibre Mag-Fed Paintball Markers and 32 pieces of empty Tippmann Tank Cylinders , 20 pieces of Ballistic Helmets and 75 bags of pangolin scales weighing 3,765kg.
He said the Command has maintained a cordial relationship with all its stakeholders and this has been a critical pillar of their successes.He explained that because of the cordial relationship shared with stakeholders, the Command initiated a sporting competition in the second quarter purposely to foster inter agency collaboration between Customs & other partners. According to him, the event promoted physical fitness, mental alertness, and comradeship among personnel and other stakeholders operating in the area of jurisdiction. The competition featured games such as badminton, table tennis, volleyball, draft as well as football.
“Over the past 6 months, the Command has remained focused on the discharge of its core mandates of revenue generation, enforcement of all relevant trade and customs laws.
“Our impressive performance was as a result of increased compliance from our traders, close monitoring of transactions, quick response to irregularities, and effective blockage of revenue leak points. We extend our sincere appreciation to all compliant importers, exporters and clearing agents for their continued support towards achieving our revenue targets.
“These seizures were the result of robust intelligence gathering, heightened surveillance and the unwavering dedication of our officers. The introduction of these sporting activities has proven effective in boosting physical fitness, reducing stress, fostering unity, and providing a relaxed platform for strategic engagement.”, he said.
