Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, newly elected First Deputy National President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has been appointed a board member National Social Insurance Trust Fund, (NSITF).
Adeyanju, a holder of Advanced Certificate in Industrial and Labour Relations is presently the President General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN)
On the board of the NSITF, the labour leader is expected to represent workers interest, a turf he is associated with for decades.
An indigene of Atiba, Oyo State, Comrade Adeyanju has achieved landmark feats in the labour movement, especially in the maritime industry.
During the EndSARS protests, he mobilised workers to prevent arsonists from attacking the Apapa and Tincan Ports in Lagos.
Adeyanju has championed landmark reforms for dock workers by instilling a greater sense of professional dignity in them and worked closely with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) to achieve issuance of biometric identity cards to them
Under his watch , the Maritime Workers Union has commenced diversifying from hundred percent reliance on members’ check off dues into haulage.
He is a recipient of numerous awards at home and abroad and has attended training, conferences and seminars on labour matters within and outside Nigeria
Amongst other functions, the NSITF provides compensation to insured employees who suffer from occupational diseases, sustain injuries or disability from accident at work place or in the course of employment, whether at usual place of work or outside of it.
