Tinubu Announces Initiative to Create 2.5 million Jobs Yearly, Calls for Resilience


President Bola Tinubu has announced initiatives aimed at empowering young people, including a National Youth Conference and the Renewed Hope Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP), which aims to create 2.5 million jobs annually.

In a nationwide Independence Day broadcast as part of activities marking the country’s 64th year of political Independence President Tinubu called on Nigerians to remain hopeful, resilient, and united in facing the country’s challenges. “Let us stand together as one nation, confident in our ability to overcome any obstacle. Better days are ahead for Nigeria,” he concluded.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has addressed Nigerians on the country’s 64th independence anniversary, acknowledging the struggles citizens face amidst economic challenges and insecurity .

In a nationwide broadcast, President Tinubu acknowledged the struggles citizens face but expressed optimism about the country stating “I assure you that we are committed to finding sustainable solutions to alleviate the suffering of our citizens. Once again, I plead for your patience as the reforms we are implementing show positive signs, and we are beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel

The President highlighted his administration’s achievements, including attracting over $30 billion in foreign direct investments and eliminating over 300 Boko Haram and bandit commanders.


“We have achieved notable successes in the fight against insecurity, and I assure you that we are committed to completely eradicating terrorism, banditry, and violent extremism

The President highlighted over $30 billion in foreign direct investments that has been secured in the past year, as a sign of growing confidence in Nigeria’s economy. He emphasized, “The growing confidence in our economy is evident, and we will continue to maintain fiscal stability to attract even more investments

Tinubu in his speech also announced steps to expand the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) adoption for public transportation noting that it would be done in collaboration with private sector partners

While reassuring Nigerians about stability in the foreign exchange market, he said “Despite the challenges faced, we have managed to stabilize the forex market, and our foreign reserves remain strong at $37 billion

Tinubu also announced recipients of national honors for 2024. Including the Senate President, Deputy Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives and his deputy
