The operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended a group of four individuals accused of fraud who were allegedly impersonating and extorting the Commission’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, in a scheme involving $1 million.
The suspected fraudsters reached out to Mohammed Bello-Koko, the former Managing Director of the Nigeria Port Authority (NPA), asserting that he was implicated in fabricated investigative activities by the EFCC during his time as Managing Director of the NPA.
They claimed that Olukoyede was prepared to offer the former Managing Director a favorable exit for $1 million, or face the possibility of arrest and legal action.
Upon receiving information about the impersonators’ activities, agents of the Commission were dispatched to engage with the suspected fraudsters. Their efforts led to the successful apprehension of the individuals, who are now in the Commission’s custody.
