The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that its presidential ticket for the 2027 general election has been zoned to the South.
The national chairman of the party, Dr Taminu Turaki, disclosed this to journalists after a consultative meeting with former Vice President Namadi Sambo in Abuja.
Turaki said the ticket was open to all eligible PDP members from southern Nigeria, assuring aspirants of a transparent and level playing field.
“We in PDP have taken a decision to zone our presidential ticket to the southern part of this country. For now, we do not know who may emerge as our candidate. The process is going to be open, transparent, fair and equitable, creating a level playing ground for everybody,” he said.
On the dismissal of a suit challenging the legitimacy of the party’s recent convention and leadership, Turaki described the court ruling as a vindication of the PDP’s position.
“The judgment of Justice Umar today has vindicated us in PDP. It confirms that our convention was legitimately conducted and that discipline must prevail within a political party,” he said.
Turaki also said former Vice President Sambo assured the leadership of his continued support for the party and reaffirmed his PDP membership.
“His Excellency has generously offered advice and guidance on how to reposition the PDP as a winning platform, and most importantly assured us that he remains a member of the party,” he added.
The PDP chairman was accompanied on the visit by members of the National Working Committee, the Board of Trustees, former governors, former ministers and state party chairmen.
