The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kebbi Area Command on Thursday, August 24, lost two of its officers in a gun duel with bandits while on a stop-and-search operation.
The deceased, Alhaji Kabiru Shehu, an Inspector of Customs and Abdullahi Muhammad, a Customs Assistant II, were shot dead by a gang of fleeing gunmen at about 1:28am.
This was disclosed by the command’s Ag. Public Relations Officer, ASC Mubarak Mustapha, the late officers were on stop-and-search operation along Bunza- Dakingari-Koko Road, when the tragedy occurred.
The bandits in an ash-colour Toyota Corolla car were said to had engaged the operatives in a fierce gun battle, an encounter the two officers paid the supreme price, and have been buried in accordance to Islamic rites.
The Customs Area Area Controller, Comptroller Ben Oramalugo, has commiserated with the deceased families and prayed that God Almighty grants them the fortitude to bear the loss.
Meanwhile, the command has launched a manhunt for the suspects, with a view to arresting and prosecuting them.
The CAC urged the public to volunteer information about the movement of suspected smugglers and other criminals, assuring that such information would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
